A non profit association dedicated to environmental and cultural preservation

ABOUT US

Terre di Tartufi-Truffles Land is a non-profit Association for Social Promotion (APS), established to protect the land and culture of Piedmont’s truffle hunting tradition. The white truffle can not be cultivated and it can only be found in a small slice of European forests.

Without the continuation of these healthy forest ecosystems, the white truffle could disappear forever. We are dedicated to protecting the forests that produce the prized white truffle to ensure the continuation of healthy ecosystems within Piedmont, and allow the region’s unique truffle hunting culture to thrive. Terre di Tartufi was created by a group of friends (truffle hunters, naturalists, farmers, doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, photographers, and writers) who joined forces to build a boot on the ground, grassroots organization focused on achieving big conservation goals in a small community.

OUR MISSION

We’re united to protect our fragile forest ecosystems so the next generation truffle hunters can carry the region’s traditions into the future. Our passion for truffle hunting is dependent on the health of our forests and our forests depend on us for their protection. That is why we have joined together and built a network of community support to maintain a culturally rich and environmentally sound Piedmont. Our primary goal is reclaiming forest land that is at risk of deforestation and bringing it into our Terre Di Tartufi Nature Preserve. Under our charter this land will remain protected forever.

ADOPT AN
ALBA WHITE TRUFFLE TREE

Our dream is to offer the opportunity to all nature lovers to be part of a project focused on the conservation, recovery and growth of our land's forest heritage. Thanks to your donations we will be able to save the white truffle from the slow decline it has been experiencing over the last 20 years. Furthermore, you will be given the opportunity to enjoy the revival of the unique features of our land by exploring myths, legends and intriguing experiences related to the Alba white truffle and to truffle hunting.

FIGHTING CLIMATE CHANGE

Forests are crucial in mitigating global warming. They suck in carbon dioxide and they push out oxygen into our atmosphere, cleaning the air through their leaves, by filtering and neutralising the surrounding pollution. In the summer season, trees act as natural air conditioners, by balancing the local climate to protect us from ever-increasing temperatures

If that wasn’t enough, their roots improve water quality, thanks to a phyto-purification action, and sustaining soil quality by supporting their underground micro ecosystems and decreasing the risk of erosion.

ENHANCING PIEDMONTESE FOOD AND WINE

For the rural areas of Monferrato-Langhe-Roero the enhancement and promotion of top quality agri-food production is a key agricultural asset. The region’s famed white truffle is the queen of our agricultural products and has charted a path for our region’s other gastronomic treasures in the international marketplace.

We are working to support sustainable practices within truffle hunting and all food production in the regions so these traditional practices can continue to support the economies of local communities while maintaining a balance with their local ecosystem.

A DIFFERENT VIEW OF THE FUTURE

LIPU's role in this project is to help spread the word about. For years, LIPU has been working to provide education about local biodiversity with an emphasis on our feathered friends that fly above us as we search for truffles
